With the school year flying by, we wanted to take some time to check in and talk about Hosting a Boy by talking about one of our favorite students, David! He’s thriving with his host family in Texas – attending parades, going on fishing trips, and cutting a rug at his school dance. David reminds the SAE Family why hosting an exchange student, especially a boy, can be so rewarding! In many ways, exchange students become a member of the family while they are here. Today, we want to highlight a few reasons why cultural exchange with male students is such a blast!
Hosting a Boy: Five Reasons!
Sons: Any mom who has raised daughters knows that we can be a bit exhausting! Hosting a boy in the exchange program is an opportunity to have a new son – no muss, no fuss, but still all the love!
Fishing Trips: Like our student David, many of our exchange student boys are excited to go on a fishing trip with host dad! It’s a chance for dads to get involved in the exchange experience, too!
Sports: Almost all of our students tell us they love sports, from basketball to soccer to American football – it’s an amazing time to get outside and play a game of catch or have a free throw contest.
Big Brothers: Many of our host families can’t stop talking about the chance for their own younger children to have a “new” big brother. It’s an amazing time for host families to have a role model for their kids to look up to as our SAE students are bright and brave for participating in a year of study abroad!
A Better Education: Most of our first exchange students picked by host families are girls, and boys are just as excited about the chance to participate in a program that offers them a stepping stone to understanding the world, improving their language skills, and opening doors to a better education.
